2019 Youth Art Month (YAM) Maryland Flag Contest

Ninth grade art student from wins $1,000 for her flag design

​

The Maryland Art Education Association is excited to announce and share the fine artwork produced by the students of Maryland under the guidance of their art teachers. Youth Art Month is a national celebration sponsored by Council for Art Education & Sargent Art. The annual celebration, which takes place in March, emphasizes the value of art education for all children and encourages support for quality art programs in state schools. 

 

The overall winner is 9th grader Autumn Winters from Suitland High School in Prince George’s County.  Autumn’s art teacher is Ms. Amanda Espina. Autumn’s design will be made into a flag which will be on display at the National Art Education Association’s convention in Boston in March.  In addition, Autumn will receive a check for $1,000, and Ms. Espina will receive $1,500 in classroom art supplies, provided by Sargent Art.

OVERALL WINNER

HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL WINNER

The High School level winner is Kimberly Zepeda Garcia.  She is a 10th grader at Parkville High School in Baltimore County.  Her art teacher is Mr. Matt Duvall.  Kimberly will receive $100 in art supplies, and Mr. Duvall will receive $300 in classroom art supplies from Sargent Art.

MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL WINNER

The Middle School level winner is 7th grader Danielle Coore from Milton M. Somers Middle School in La Plata, Charles County.  Her teacher is Mr. Richard Ivanac.  Danielle will receive $100 in art supplies, and Mr. Ivanac will receive $300 in classroom supplies from Sargent Art.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LEVEL WINNER

The Elementary School level winner is 3rd grader Evelyn Epstein from Summit Park Elementary School in Pikesville, Baltimore County.  Her art teacher is Ms. Stacy Bentley.  Evelyn will receive $100 in art supplies, and Ms. Bentley will receive $300 in classroom supplies from Sargent Art.

HONORABLE MENTION

Rebeca Fuquen, an 11th grader from Annapolis High School, Anne Arundel County received an honorable mention for her flag design.  Her art teacher is Ms. Erin Morris.

Madeline Moore, a 9th grader from Seneca Valley High School in Montgomery County, received an honorable mention for her flag design.  Her art teacher is Ms. Katherine Hess.
