2015 MAEA Awards given out at the Walters

State Wide Walters Exhibit 2015

On Sunday, November 8th, students and their families from all over the state of Maryland gathered at the Walter¡Çs art museum in Baltimore City to celebrate a select group of talented youth. 170 artworks from 14 Maryland counties were selected to display in the museum's sculpture court for a three-week exhibit. During the reception, attendees gathered in the museum¡Çs auditorium where MAEA President, Elizabeth Stuart spoke briefly before introducing Kenneth Skrzesz, Coodinator of Fine Arts for the Maryland State Department of Education. Mr. Skrzesk congratulated students and challenged family members to walk through the exhibit and converse with the artists about the work they have created; an opportunity we are not often given.

National Coalition for Core Arts Standards Launches Assessment Pilot Project

The National Coalition for Core Arts Standards (NCCAS) has issued a call for elementary and middle school teachers to help pilot the Core Arts Standards Model Cornerstone Assessments (MCAs) during the 2014-2015 school year. The Model Cornerstone Assessments are rich performance-based assessment examples at the benchmark grades of 2, 5, and 8. The MCAs were designed in conjunction with the new voluntary grade-by-grade Core Arts Standards released by NCCAS in June. Pilot sites will be selected from a range of rural, suburban, and urban classroom settings across the nation. Elementary and middle school arts educators interested in helping to pilot these sample assessments in dance, media arts, music, theatre, or visual arts are encouraged to apply.
